The Reason you Can't Move Forward!

So I have 2 growing piles of clothes that are consuming the floor of my closet. They’re clothes I don’t want anymore and I want to donate to Goodwill. They’ve been sitting there for like 6 months, and every time I look at them I get mad and frustrated and agitated that I can’t walk into that side of my closet, etc.

Then the other day it dawned on me… I’m not waiting for a Goodwill to open near me, because there’s one right down the road from my office. I’m not waiting for those clothes to be washed, because they’re all clean. All that’s missing from my having peace-of-mind and a clean closet floor again is…

Two. Black. Trash. Bags.

That’s it.

I don’t need an act of congress or anything complex. The only thing holding me back is a couple of large plastic bags. I have been held hostage, unable to move forward for a long time because of one simple piece. Here’s the point:

I am willing to bet that as a leader you have some project, idea or goal that has stalled out, because you’re missing one small, simple piece.

  • Something in our psyche would rather shut down than go out to the garage for 3 minutes and find 2 black trash bags.
  • Something in our psyche would rather stall than send an email to get that piece of Information that could get the project moving again.
  • Something in us stalls instead of buying a $20 app or part that would make our life so much simpler.

So here’s the homework: Whatever you’re missing, go do right now.

  • Send the email.
  • Buy the part.
  • Make the phone call.
  • Add it to your assistant’s list.
  • Find the receipt.
  • Ask the question.
  • Research the detail.
  • Do it.

You’ll be so glad you did. After all, forward progress awaits. Get moving its worth it.

For now, I’m off to find a couple garbage bags…
