Simple Things Spread

Whatever your message is, whatever your idea, keep it simple.

Simple things spread.

  • If it’s too difficult to explain, nobody will,
  • If it’s too complicated to understand, nobody will.
  • Every time we adds a layer of complexity, we slow down the viral ability of our idea.
  • Every time we add a rule or guideline, we bog it down.
  • Every time we add something, even good things, we make whatever it is, more complex and slowness will surely follow.

Throughout my leadership journey, one of the greatest fights has been to keep it simple. Complexity creep is a killer of speed and momentum. Yes things have to get bigger, but at the level where things touch the people, it has to be simple or no one will talk about it.

  • Pricing – if it’s got 3 tiers, 4 timelines and 2 group discounts, it won’t work.
  • Assimilation tracks in churches – 14 steps, 9 classes, won’t work.
  • Application forms – 77 fill in the blanks, you lost me.
  • Information cards – Do you really need kid’s birthday’s?
  • A sermon – If you can’t say it in 35 minutes, you don’t really understand it.
  • The surveys at a restaurant – call this number, enter this code, give them my name, answer these questions… you lost me.

Application:
? Where could you eliminate 2 or 3 layers of complexity and thus increase the speed of your idea, product, or service?

Simple Spreads.
