"Let's Put on a Show!!!"
I was watching an interview with Comic Legend, Carol Burnett recently. She was sharing the story of her career and how she “was discovered.” When she arrived in New York City in 1954, every agent she met with told her the same thing, “When you’re in something, let me know…” After hearing this repeatedly, Carol decided to take matters into her own hands. She went back to the Rehearsal Club where she was staying with a few dozen other actresses who were all trying to “make it.” She gathered the girls together and said to them, “Lets put on a show!!!”
Carol Burnett organized a variety show with all of those girls and then sent out Penny-Post-Cards to every agent in town stating, “You said to call you when we are in something… well now we are!” The Postcard was their “ticket for admission” to the show.
The agents came and 3 of the girls, including Carol, got signed!
Stop whining about not being given a shot and do as Carol Burnett did… Go make something happen!
As Seth Godin says, “Pick yourself.”
