The 4 Step Guide to Learning from New Voices
Every so often, I will find a voice in the Leadership or Marketing space that I find intriguing. A voice that resonates with some particular belief I have or that is speaking to some area I want to learn about. When I find one of these voices here’s what I do:
I submerse myself in their voice. By that I mean 4 things specifically:
1. I buy 3 of their books.
2. I download 8 of their talks.
3. I subscribe to their blog.
4. I begin following them on Twitter.
The Result: My thinking starts to change. I’ve noticed that after about 60 days of submersing myself in their thought content, my thinking on their subject of expertise begins to change, thus changing the way I think about leadership, marketing or the culture I’m trying to create in the organizations I lead.
______
An Example of a voice I’ve done this with recently is Bernadette Jiwa. I would characterize her as “The Seth Godin of Australia…” She gets it and she’s got a cool accent! Find her @BernadetteJiwa and http://www.TheStoryofTelling.com. I would love to interview her for an hour. I think she has a message that’s needed in the leadership space in the USA.
This type of “content immersion” is a powerful strategy that’s allowed me to stretch and grow in my leadership in immediate and intense ways rather than just a casual drip.
Hope that helps…
P.S…
